Louisiana Iris, Hybridized in 1978, hybridized by Chowning, blooms midseason, height 24 - 36 inches, dark velvety purple to black with a yellow signal
Black Gamecock is a very vigorous grower. It requires full sun and likes lots of water. Pine needles are a great mulch for this iris. The flower is almost black in color as the purple is so dark and velvety. Does well in ponds, but can also be grown in any soil as long as there is enough water.
